In what seems a bit like the mobile phone world’s equivalent of a footballer promising to give 110%, Apple has promised that their new Apple iPhone 3G S runs around 2.1 times faster than the older version. But unlike the overpaid player, we’re actually willing to believe Apple. Where you’ll really notice it is in the speed and smoothness at which the internet runs, meaning embedded graphics and text pop-up almost instantly.

Other cool additions to the Apple iPhone 3G S include the ability to not only record but edit video footage, a compass feature with an old-school spinning needle, and voice control. Want the Killers to play? Then shout ‘play The Killers’. Want to call your mum? Then scream ‘Call mum’. Hopefully your friends will be impressed rather than scared when you pull this off. And, after much criticism for not doing so first time round, the Apple iPhone 3G S allows you to tether your internet connection. So you can now share the 3G connection with a Macbook or even a PC laptop. Meaning you’ll never have to use the word ‘dongle’ again in your life. Phew.

Battery life, another thing Apple have received some stick for over the years, has also been improved. They claim you’ll get up to 12 hours of talk time on 2G and 5 on 3G, with up to 300 hours standby. On 3G, you can expect 5 hours of internet use and on Wi-Fi, that goes up to 9 hours. Video playback is a not too shoddy 10 hours, and there’s a 30-hour promise for audio.

There’s a whole raft of other new features too. You can read an Iphone 3G S review to find out more, or watch this guy jabber on about it instead (he seems to know what he’s talking about):
