The HTC Snap – the new ‘candybar’ business phone hitting shelves this summer – has a relatively nifty 528Mhz Qualcomm processor, runs on WinMo 6.1, has a 2.4″ TFT LCD screen, and supports 3G networks. Unlike its predecessor, it also has a trackball and an enter button. Other features of the HTC Snap include bluetooth 2.0, QWERTY keyboard, a whopping 1500mAh Li-Ion battery, 2MP digital camera with video, and a microSD card slot. All good so far, but, well, that’s about it.

There’s something called the Inner Circle which HTC are pushing as something special, but even though it has a cool name (or an almost cool, slightly masonic, slightly scarily World of Warcraft name), all this really does is filter your emails and messages from a selected group and bring them to your attention. And that got us to thinking: is that the best they’ve got to say? Nothing that no other phone company has even dreamed of? No piece of technology used by NASA? No story behind one of its designers who trekked into the jungle to consult a shaman about their marketing strategy?

Maybe we’re asking too much, but it just feels like, with the even the business phone market, let alone mobile phone market in general, being so cluttered these days, you really need something special, something to turn heads and garner interest and blog inches. And something that kind of makes some emails stand out more than others just isn’t it.

Who knows though. Some people – and who’s to blame them – shy away from the flash and shiny. We know people who’ve never bought an iPhone for the fear of being seen as “one of those kinds of people.” Whatever that might mean. Even the Blackberry/Crackberry has managed to build up it’s own little army of haters. So maybe the HTC Snap is for these people. These small time renegades, these suburban revolutionaries. Maybe, at least. But we’re pretty sure it’s not for us. Check out an HTC Snap review here, or watch this video:
