MicroSDWhy We Use the MicroSD Memory Card

Since SD cards were first released on the market, they have been in constant use by electronic devices such as mobile phones, handheld gaming systems, cameras and many others. SD cards have seen various incarnations and are very versatile in use.

Size Matters, But in a Different Way

Being small and handy, they are the perfect media for storing digital files. What makes micro SD cards so important is that they are the smallest cards available on the market. Yes, these days smaller is better. Small SD cards enable mobile phones to be slimmer because the MicroSD card slot itself does not add to the bulk. It also weighs a whole lot less.

Versatility is Key

The great thing about MicroSD cards is that it is compatible for use with most SD card slots. This is possible through the use of card adapters. While you cannot use the larger cards into the MicroSD card slot directly, this is not a problem for the smaller micro. Adapters usually come with the card when you purchase it. If not, it is commercially available and easy to find.

MicroSD Cards Problems

The biggest problem plaguing manufacturers of SD cards is bootlegging. SD cards cost quite a lot to manufacture. The technology required to shrink down parts to minute size is expensive and development costs alone are astronomical. This is why the costs of SD cards can be pretty expensive.

But reality wise, there is an existing black market that sells and produces cheaper SD cards of lower quality. These cards imitate existing SD card brands, labels and packaging, but are made of low quality material. They are sold at a cheaper price too. These fakes usually do not work long and make the real manufacturers lose profit. Buyers should be wary of these items when buying MicroSD memory cards.
