Samsung have unveiled the full-touch solar powered Samsung Blue Earth, which is a sign of Samsung’s commitment to a sustainable environment. Under their slogan of ‘The Blue Earth Dream: Eco-living with Samsung mobile’, Samsung has, yet again, showcased their commitment to keep the environment intact by designing eco-friendly products. It was shown at the MWC 2009. The design is supposed to resemble a rounded and flat pebble, the Blue Earth is the first ever solar-powered touchscreen. It gets charged by the solar panel on the phone’s back, which will generate enough power for the phone to make a call anytime.

The Blue Earth has been made from recycled plastic, which is obtained from water bottles, which enables it to reduce carbon emissions and consumption of fuel when being manufactured. The handset, as well as the charge, is made from non harmful products like Beryllium, Brominated Flame Retardants and Phthalate. The packaging of the retail-box is made from recycled material and comes with an extremely efficient charger, which apparently makes use of a standby power which is supposed to be less than 0.03W, which is quite unbelievable and amazing!

The latest in a number of environmental-friendly products being developed by Samsung, the Samsung Blue Earth has a totally different interface which is supposed to increase attention to keeping the environment intact. It is easy to change the backlight time, screen brightness, and Bluetooth to a mode which saves energy. You can do all this by just clicking on the ‘eco mode’. The ‘eco walk’ function shows you how many trees you’ve saved by walking (your carbon footprint) and the amount of CO2 emissions which has been avoided by you walking rather than using the car or any other mode of transport.
