The T-Mobile MDA Basic is the version of the HTC Touch Viva, released specifically for T-Mobile. A smartphone aimed at the mid – range users, the T-Mobile MDA Basic is the latest in the line of MDA phones to be announced and should cater to a large audience.

Having a 2.8 inch QVGA touchscreen, the T-Mobile MDA Basic, very much like the HTC Touch Viva, has handwriting recognition and the TouchFLO user interface, which has become a standard of HTC phones, but, quite unfortunately, it is the 2D version, not the 3D one, which is a fair bit of disappointment.

The MDA Basic runs on the Windows Mobile 6.1 platform and has a 2 Megapixel snapper onboard with fixed focus but doesn’t have a secondary camera because of the lack of 3G facilities, which is quite surprising considering the fact that it has become staple for touchscreen phones to have 3G. However, it does compensate for this with Wi-Fi facilities and EDGE connectivity.

The T-Mobile MDA Basic also has Bluetooth and USB facilities to add to the connectivity list. A microSD memory card slot is available to expand the memory upto 4 GB in addition to the 256 MB already available.

The features list of the MDA Basic also include an MP3 player and the usual Pocket Office which can be used to view Excel spreadsheets, Word documents and PowerPoint presentations and edit them if necessary on – the – go. A PDF viewer is also available which will enable you to view PDF files on the phone. A variety of messaging options, including email and IM, are also available.

The T-Mobile MDA Basic is set to be released in Germany in March, but a release date for the UK has not been announced as of yet, but this shouldn’t be too far away.
